Hitting the Road
Today, Jack and I are packing a truck and moving to Montreal. Well, to be more accurate, Jack has been packing up a truck while I've been back to work for three very busy, post-wedding, post-vacation [sort of] days.
I'm excited, a little nervous and very ready for this move. I think the best part of the moving-portion will be the stop-over we have planned in Grand Falls, NB. Since we didn't have time to take a honeymoon after our wedding [what with packing and pre-move visits and all] we are spending a night in a cabin up that way. Should be plenty romantic, mosquitos and all.
I'll be getting back into the blogging swing of things next week sharing some awesome pre-wedding outfits. If I'm a little spotty over the next two weeks, please bare with me, we'll be settling in and since I didn't help with the packing I'm pretty sure I'll have some un-packing duties. Check in tomorrow for my last guest post - a delicious little recipe to take you into the weekend!

Mercedes-Benz StartUp Semi Finals - Halifax
On Friday, I was invited to attend Halifax's Mercedes-Benz Start Up Semi Finals at O'Regan's Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz Start Up is an initiative that provides a national platform to discover, mentor and support emerging designers from across Canada. The Mercedes-Benz Start Up was developed by Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. and IMG Fashion, and is produced in association with the Fashion Design Council of Canada. The winners of the four semi finals [held in Edmonton, Ottawa, Quebec City and Halifax] go on to show at Toronto Fashion Week!
Although I managed to remember my camera this time, I wasn't as dedicated to taking photos as I should have been - It was hard to break my obsessive 19 year old habit of snapping every possible photo, and now it's hard to revive it. But I managed to get a few and borrowed a couple from Mo.
PRE-SHOW
- Kayla, myself [obviously not camera ready - ORRR more camera ready than ever], Ruby and Kerrianne
- The lovely Tosan and Mo
- My very exciting VIP Media seating!
- The front row
- Kayla and I. Apart from the fact that I am in desperate need of a haircut [I blame you, wedding!], I'd say us girls clean up pretty nice.
FIRST UP -------

AND THE WINNER IS...

East Coast Fashion Bloggers: unleashed!
I apologize for interrupting my regularly scheduled Food Friday post [it seems this has been the week of interruptions..] but I have a very exciting event I wanted to share with you!
For a little over two months now Jess and Erin of Haute Halifax, Kayla of Shorts Presents and I have been working our hardest to plan an event that will bring fashion bloggers from across Canada's East Coast together for a weekend to meet, mingle, chat and learn from each other [I even designed our logo!].
and now it's finally here! All our hard work has finally come to fruition - I am SO excited! We have a bunch of great sponsors and a great bunch of girls on the way. This last week has been a little intense as we have been finalizing all the last minute details [today, I may have even momentarily spaced on that fact that I was even aware of this event... no lie. As I said - it's been a longgg week.] but it has been amazing all the same. SO stay tuned.. because next will I may be interrupting regular posts again to share how it all went down !!

Food Friday: Dining at CheeseCurds
This Friday I bring to you another spotlight on a local Halifax restaurant… or in this case, a local Dartmouth restaurant. I've been holding this one in my back pocket for a while and since I am finishing up a big week away with very little at-home cooking to speak of, I thought what better time to introduce you to what is sure to be HRM hotspot for years to come.
Although gourmet burger joints aren't a be idea [and may actually be considered quite trendy as of late] they are "new to Halifax
After returning home from a trip to Montreal last April, a visit to the famous La Paryse and an insatiable appetite for all things gourmet burger, I was bummed to find there was no place in Halifax that could fill this void. Obviously I could grab a burger at one of our many [arguably too many] pubs or swing by Brooklyn Warehouse, but it wasn't the same. I wanted a restaurant that was all about burgers and wanted you to be all about burgers too. Well my friends, my prayers were answered - Cheesecurds has arrived.
In its first three days of operation, Cheesecurds served over 1400 customers, causing the restaurant to shut unexpectedly on their fourth day in business due to a sudden and swift depletion of any and all ingredients.
As happy as we were for their immediate success, Jack and I are not two people who like to wait around when it comes to sampling delicious new restaurants and we were beyond thrilled that we made it in for our inaugural visit on their second day of operation.
The staff were nice, the decor clean and crisp and the food delicious making the 50 minutes between placing our order and having our take-out in our hands worth every second.
I ordered the Honolulu burger, Jack got the C+C Porker and we split a poutine. Jack loved his burger. It was big, meaty and full of bacon - exactly what he looks for in a burger. I, on the other hand, was not as thrilled however, I do not hold this against the folks at Cheesecurds. Apparently I don't like warm pineapple and just never knew until I got the Honolulu burger. Also, I love thin burgers with piles of lettuce, sprouts, tomatoes and avocados; this was mostly meat. The poutine was delicious - not as delicious as Willy's, but really what is? Honestly, whether or not pineapple tainted my experience, this was great food with local ingredients and I can't wait to try it again!

Food Friday: Dining out at the Bicycle Thief
There are a number of reasons why I attempt to eat at home 9 times out of 10. Cost efficiency and the ability to make healthier decisions are obvious reasons, while opportunities to take photos for Food Friday and the need to be wearing sweat pants by 5pm sharp, are a little more unconventional. Sometimes though, life gets nutty and you just don't have the choice. Rational reasoning or not, there's just no time for cooking. No time for grocery shopping. No time to defrost, saute, and broil. No time to eat. But eat we must. And last night, I ate at one of the best eateries Halifax has to offer. I went to the Bicycle Thief!
The Bicycle Thief opened its doors Spring 2011 and has been impressing haligonians, and Pierce Brosnan, ever since. I have been lucky enough to stop in three or four times since its inception, and am continuously searching for my next opportunity. This opportunity presented itself in the form of dinner with a new friend from out of town.
We met at 6:15 and settled in for the long haul. I began the evening with a glass of Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa, Zenato ’08. It was fantastic. To be honest, I’m not in-the-know of how to describe wine so delicious, and oh-so-sippable is where my commentary will rest.
To start, I chose the Tuna Tartare, followed by the Shaved Fennel salad with zesty orange vinaigrette as my main. I was a genius; I would have never been able to eat both an appetizer to myself and a main! The Tuna Tartare was amazing. I was blown away. If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be this Tuna Tartare and I would be in heaven. The salad was also delicious, fresh and the perfect amount of sweet, however I couldn’t really offer it the attention it deserved since I was still head over heels for the Tuna Tartare. As all refined ladies do, we finished our evening with dessert and tea. I pounced on the lemon brown sugar meringue pie with the graham crust, while my friend had the carrot cake. No complaints, the Bicycle Thief does sweet as well as it does savoury. In fact, I continued to polish off my pie long after my too-full tummy begged me to stop. My only saving grace was that I ignored my no salad-as-a-main rule foreseeing dessert as a probability.
Unfortunately, the new friend aspect kept my manners in check and I refrained from pulling out Jack's Canon T2i and getting all paparazzo on my Tuna Tartare. Not going to lie, it was tough. Really tough. Likely, it was the hardest thing I'll ever have to do. Something I still regret to a ridiculous degree. HOWEVER, it was SO beyond amazing that I can PROMISE you that the next time I go back I will have NO shame, snap photos and post them for you all to devour eye-style. In the meantime, I hope these snap shots I found on the restaurants main page and other corners of the pub will get your mouth watering.
