I grabbed these shots before the major snow dump. Had it been post snow I have a feeling those wedges would be swapped out in favour of my war, dry, Sorels. In any case, I'm just glad I grabbed a couple pictures so I could keep my epic snow day of waffles, Christmas movies and baking distraction free. This outfit is quickly becoming my new favourite combo and I have a feeling it is going to become my go-to winter office outfit. How could it not? Navy, layers, print? Perfect winter cocktail.

I picked this gem up at the Boutique Stockmarkt Sample Sale in St. Henri. I avoided dropping in on the sale for the first four days because I knew what awaited me. I have perfected walking away from many gorgeous goodies in favour of waiting for the perfect moment and the perfect piece however James Perse is one of those perfections I cannot walk away from. Though this dress is similar to my theory frock they are not the same! Where theory is structured and office-ready, my darling JP is relaxed and perfect for the weekend. 

Speaking of, I already have my sights set on the weekend. The last one was just so perfect I can't wait to get this one started!

I've got a bout of writer's block. Words fail me and my brain is a-stuttering. Rather than withholding this post any longer I will keep things simple - much like my outfit. Three cheers for Friday, y'all have yourselves a lovely little weekend full of relaxation, fun and friends! Meet you on the other side.

 

a lovely piece

There are clothes and then there are, pieces. Clothes are great. They are lovely, fun, classic, flexible, long lasting and oh-so-remixable. I love clothes. I take my time choosing them. I call my shopping style "stalking". I go out often, see what's around and if nothing jumps out at me, I leave. I return the next week to check up. What is still available? What's on sale? What have I not been able to get off. my. mind. Sometimes the cycle lasts two weeks, other times two months. It's a waiting game for me, I'm choosey. I don't want to contribute to the fast-fashion landfill but I also can't afford the high-end forever options. I usually end up fair quality (think Club Monaco) at a sale price. These are clothes, I take my time.

Then, there are pieces. You know them when you see them. There's no question. If you could have it, you would care for it. Tenderly hang it in your closet forever. Wear it on occasion - when it mattered. They stand out, they steal your heart; they are an investment. This blazer was brought to my dressing room as a last minute suggestion (i love when they do that!) when we were in California. I let out an audible sign as I put it on because I knew that it would not be leaving my sight. When a piece like this finds you, you don't think on it or weigh your options - you jump on it! sure as you've ever been that it is worth every penny. Even though it was at a markdown, I had to make some tough choices between the clothing I had hung in my "yes" pile B.D. (before Devereux). I would not have been able to bring it home otherwise (well I mean I could have but I feel as though an international incarceration is a bit of a headache), but these are the choices one makes easily when comparing a piece to a number of lovely clothes.

Relaxed Theory

Yesterday, we lucked out with a hot minute of warm weather here in Montreal - clearly, I took full advantage.At this stage in the season days above 13 degrees are a bit of a rarity and being a winter denier I take the opportunity to sartorially turn back the clock a month or so. I sure don't want to wake up some cold day in February asking myself : how did it get to be like this? why I let so many opportunities pass me by? When that day comes, I'll know that I took every chance I could to squeeze the warmth out of fall and I'll have these memories to get me through*.

*disclaimer: unseasonably warm weather makes me slightly dramatic

Didn't really realize how far the temperature had dropped when I left home wearing this. Luckily for me, the bus was a minute late, the subway fulling packed (and warm) and the underground tunnels to work completely open. By the time I got to the office, my teeth had stopped chattering and my legs returned to their normal colour. I just want to live in a place where I can dress "fall" and not feel like a 14 year old rebelling in February. I honestly love this ensemble. Dressing up a checkered shirt for office is my new favourite and it made me feel oh-so-fall, which is perfect seeing as it seems winter is just around the corner. **blech**

Last Days

I've been saying this for a while but I think it's finally come to an end; these are the last few  warm days of fall. I didn't expect it to last this long but boy do I wish they could stay around a little longer. As much as layers are great, I want them to be an option, not a requirement. On the upside, this dress will transition extremely well into fall with a blazer, tights and killer wedge booties!

San Francisco Travel Layers

This outfit is a little more hobo chic than I usually opt for however our early morning flight to San Francisco had me recoiling at the thought of pants. Instead, I opted for many layers and my faciest leggings - perfect pre-daylight travel wear. 

Surprisingly, also perfect early-day Alcatraz touring wear! San Francisco is all about layers and I bought in... although as a bit of a novice I did cheat and keep a pair of shorts in my bag. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to share our honeymoon with you. We packed our trip so full and there's just so much to share, it's overwhelming. I tried to filter some of it, show only the most lovely of times, but I adore every part of our trip and can't bring myself to leave out a moment. I've decided to share our trip in five parts over the next week and a bit so check in and check out our honeymoon adventure - I can't wait!

Weekday Metallics

So, I think it's official - I live in this sweater. I was trying to pretend it wasn't true but days have blurred together and I now wave my hand dismissively while trying to remember when I wore it last [it was yesterday, the answer is always yesterday]. I have even begun expanding my arsenal of comfortable bottoms in an effort to distract from my obvious repetition. The gold pants are among my favourite new purchases. Does it count as a new outfit if I switch to these booties when I wear it tomorrow?

Warm sweater, few words

This sweater... oh my, this sweater. When I'm smitten I get tongue-tied, straight up lose my words. This sweater has me swooning. It is comfy, it is warm [oh-so warm! even warmer than you think it will be] and it fits like a dream. Comfy and stylish - my big two, what more could I want? I can't wait to style it again... I may just live in it. Think I could make it office appropriate?
