Food Friday: Steak & Veggies

I should begin by saying: I am, by no means, a vegetarian. With that out of the way I should also let you know that, I'm not the biggest fan of meat. I like it prepared certain ways and in small doses however, I rarely make a meal centered around a big piece of chicken, steak or pork. Normally my ability to eat with no end in sight has, well, no end in sight. Party go-ers beware, I already got to those chips and they are finished. When it comes to meat though, I'm not sure what it is about the stuff but I have a very low tolerance. Once in a while though, I've gotta cave and do something for the man I love. This time, we had steak.

...and veggies. Lots of veggies. Here's how it went down:

Jack: What do you want for dinner?
Sorren: ugh. no fair. you decide
Jack: What's no fair?
Sorren: don't be lazy, choose what we're having
--- 15 minutes of silence; who will break first ---
Sorren: blarg! okay, **opens fridge** we can have some veggies
Jack: ...and steak
Sorren: fine. and steak.

Seriously, what's with boys anyway? Since when is a big pan of veggies not a well-rounded meal?? Anyway, by this point it was like 8pm so we tossed the veggies with 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon water, salt and pepper and threw them into a heated pan.

Then Jack got slightly fancy and threw together a modified au jus (we didn't have port). For this we chopped a shallot, sauteed it in 1 tablespoon oil, 1 tablespoon butter and topped it off with 1 cup beef bouillon ...and slightly more butter, finally leaving it to simmer down.

Once the veggies and sauce were close to completion we through the steaks on our george forman for 5 minutes per side and then, VOILA! Dinner! Who knew?
