Wedding Wednesday :: The Walk

After a brief hiatus Wedding Wednesdays are back! In the past little while I have been doing a lot of wedding planning and less wedding planning documenting. Turns out, things move much faster when you aren't attempting to take photos and jot down quirky observations every other second. Who knew? In any case, I have LOADS to share beginning with: the walk down the aisle.

There is no way in the world that I would have ever guessed that choosing a song to walk down the aisle to would be one of the hardest decisions of my wedding planning - but it is. I have been brainstorming up a hurricane over the past couple months trying to think of something that's just oh-so-perfect without crossing over into cliche.

Last year, two of my friends got married and they both had the most perfect songs. One friend chose an instrumental version of Kiss the Girl and the other, an instrumental of La Vie en Rose. Both of these songs, although different in ambiance, balanced each girl's personality, a sweetness and created a feeling upon hearing it and seeing them that just made it all beyond amazing. And now I must find my perfect song ...or some less effortlessly-clever and sweet friends, but it's too late for that!

When Jack and I sat down to figure out the perfect ditty it quickly descended into a competition of who could find the most ridiculous option possible. Some of our best* were: uno, dos, tress, cuatro.

I think I may have settled on the one, but I'd like to know what you think. Here are a couple I'm actually considering. In every case, I would have an instrumental version as my friend [or friends depending on if I prefer one or a few guitars]. If you have thought of the MOST perfect one please let me know!

*we played this game before bed so our 1am idea of "funny" is slightly altered from our regular/sane afternoon version of funny

  1. Hi Soren! When I got married in an Atlantic/Irish/Pirate themed wedding last summer, I walked up to "The Log Driver's Waltz" played on the harp. Probably a bit cliche for you in Halifax, but for us in Vancouver it was a bit more novel, and definitely poignant!

  2. The String Quartet makes me smile the minute I hear it so that's totally my vote.

    B & I finally started planning the old wedding and I've been racking my brain trying to find songs. I really love Alexi Murdoch's so I'd love to pick one of his songs. I like this one for a first dance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R5IQoIYvTM  and this one is strangely sweet with it's single lyric http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU3dZ_EnHi4. This song always makes me think of Ben because we listened to it non stop when we started dating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXEq7WiINa4

  6. These are all nice choices, for sure! I have played piano at so many weddings and I can honestly say that no matter what the bride has chosen, the walk down the aisle has been a lovely moment - so as long as you pick something you like, it will be fine!

    Some of my own favourites for wedding songs are:
    Annie's Song by John Denver: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp2Jn5ttlac
    Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkTKhnoBDto
