Up until this spring I owned no lace. Not one piece. Not even a lace scrunchy... not that I own scrunchies, not since grade 8 anyway. Lace just wasn't my thing. I admired certain pieces on others, or on hangers, but could never find the right pieces to work into my own wardrobe. Then this season - spring 2011 - exploded on the scene and all of a sudden everywhere I looked there were pieces that were incorporating lace as though they were designing just for me. The pieces (here and here) I have chosen to this point have lightly incorporated lace, using it as an accent rather than the main course.
As soon as I walked into Aritzia during my recent trip to Ottawa I was drawn to this top. Although the top is striking it was out of the ordinary for me to go directly for something like this. The lace, the cut, the shape - none of it fit my usual M.O. but I gave it shot. And it won. It won me right over. Even as I bought it I was unsure how I to style i, however I knew this piece was worth the risk. To be honest I'm still not completely sure how to style it, but here is my first go. I cannot wait to wear it again.

Just found your blog through Everybody Everywhere. I love this outfit! It's so clean and simple and really highlights your pretty lace top. And it looks great on you.
ReplyDeleteGreat top! You could wear that with anything! (also found you through EBEW)
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet top. I love jeans with white t-shirts in the summer.
ReplyDeleteYou have a reason to be excited! Such a fun outfit! Truly, I get so excited about EBEW, as well. It's so fun to have one item to focus on that I have to make work whether I like it or not - I'm like you and have only one piece of lace in my closet. After keeping my eye out for lace in the stores since this challenge, though, I can't wait to add more! Your shirt is one of the ones I'll be keeping my eye out for - totally out of my comfort box as far as style as well, but I can see how it would look fabulous on just about anyone. Adding you to my reader!
ReplyDeleteHey, what's wrong with scrunchies?? haha jk I really love the top. I love that creamy color. Would go with almost anything me thinks.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this outfit! And your hair looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove it! You look amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd...we're almost EBEW lace twins...except I opted for tango-inspired shoes instead of wedges at the last minute this morning.
This is perfectly casual. I love it.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! Definitely going to try and replicate it...
ReplyDeleteI love your "lace take" on jeans and a white tee. It really jazzes it up. And those wedges are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat top is fantastic! I love how it's a 'thicker' lace, not as dainty as some as the others. It gives it such a chic look. And paired with those wedges? I adore this whole look!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this look. So clean and classic. Makes me want to run out and buy a white lace top pronto.

ReplyDeleteLove how easy breezy this is - great job!
ReplyDeletei'm with you--i'm not a "lace" person per se, but your top is beautiful on you. i love how you styled it simply, too, to let the shirt shine. way to go!

I love your lace top. I don't have much lace, I had to wear my lacy skirt that I hadn't even tried on before for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very classic way of styling it. Simple jeans and amazing black wedges.
ReplyDeleteomg i love this look!! it's so simple and elegant! saved it for fashion inspiration.
ReplyDeletelots of love, ayan

ReplyDeletenewest follower!

ReplyDeletethat's a really cute lace top and your shoes are lovely!
ReplyDeletei still don't own any lace so i should work on that
I love this outfit and your hair! So glad I found your blog through EBEW. Off to check out your other outfits now-following!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite EBEW looks. It is casual but looks great! Also, you tucked a shirt into jeans which I can never do AND your hair rocks.
ReplyDeleteLove that top and how you styled it! Plus you have the prettiest hair!

Love this simple look. Lace is the perfect thing to keep the subtle style but give it a bit of sass. :) And the shoes- awesome!
ReplyDeleteSimple but very chic...love it!!
ReplyDeleteThank youuuu for making lace feel modern! Also, how cute is your hair curled?! SO cute! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG! I totally LOVE this lace shirt.
ReplyDeleteAnd I used to like Aritzia (just window shopping, I've never actually bought anything before) but the last time we were there, they were blasting gangsta music that was filled with f bombs and the n word, and it was kind of off-putting that they would use that kind of music in an upscale shop that caters to rich white kids.
But I may have to go now to hunt down that lace shirt. So pretty!
Oh my, that is a pretty ridiculous music choice for aritzia. They should be playing pheonix or something. I don't have one in my city so I attempt to check them out whenever I get a chance. Ive had a few hits, mostly misses - but maybe that's because my budget isn't expansive enough to justify most pieces.
ReplyDeleteI love your causal look spiced up with lace and those gorgeous wedges - I really want them now!
ReplyDeleteI got a pair of MRKT sandals recently and they are so insanely comfortable, i'm already itching to get another pair by them!
Chic on the Cheap
I think you mixed it so well!the structure of the jeans balances the girly of the lace!
ReplyDeleteI think you nailed it! This outfit looks effortless (in a good way) - the perfect mix of casual and dressy. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely! The shoes are so cute!

ReplyDeleteYa know, I don't own much lace either. It's really hard for me to find lace items that don't look grandmotherly or trashy. I love the simplicity of yours though-those boyfriend jeans and wedges looks gorg together!

Love that lace top. Perfect for the jeans and the wedges, eh. Simply beautiful outfit!
