Everybody. Everywear: MAXI

The maxi. This style has baffled me since I purged my closet of it circa grade 10. Before the tenth grade I thought my super long jean and khaki skirts were so ma-ture and I, for wearing them. Then suddenly I began to feel as though I was dressing for the compound and not for trigonometry. Could have been the stiff fabric. Perhaps my clunky shoes? Most likely it was the early 2000s and the unfortunate stylins of the time; I was scared off and long skirts were banished. I still haven't recovered. I was dreading the maxi winning the vote. I still don't own a maxi - I had to borrow this one from my friend Ruby.

I must admit though, I am beginning to warm back up to the idea of the maxi. It began this past winter when my friend asked me for maxi-advice and I began searching how the modern maxi is being styled. Then I discovered Michelle's Style File and her collection of maxis - beautiful. It wasn't until Everybody, Everywear announced the April theme that I began to consider how I could wear and style one. I didn't really know which way to go with the styling, so I tried to dress it up since it's not warm enough to wear it on its own. I think it turned out alright, it reminds me of Meryl Streep; mature and regal. As much as I did love wearing and styling it, I think this is one of the trends that I will eye cautiously from afar until I find the perfect piece for me.

If you're wondering about that last beauty, that's what I look like when I realize how white my legs have really gotten.

  3. Awe, don't shy away from the maxi, embrace it! You look great here and I like how you styled your friends maxi. Now give it back to her and go buy one of your own. They are fun to mix and match stuff with.

  8. haha i made the same face yesterday when i saw boyf's outfit photos and my legs looked all ghostly. i used to naturally have a ton of color, and then i started to spend all my time indoors under flourescent lights...hm. i wonder why i'm so pale?

the maxi looks great on you, though! i love that you classed it up with heels and a button-down.

  17. LOL! The last picture is funny-I mentioned in my post how maxis are great for hiding pale legs, as mine are a lovely shade of white too. I think this is a great look on you-love the blue with the black. Well done!

  19. LOVE the way you styled this maxi! I am actually baffled by how to even wear one (then again, most maxi dresses hover over my ankles... eep).

random: do you play guitar? I spot the two beauties behind you in the photos and you have piqued an interest!

  20. @demuremuse I think you and I share a height issue as you can see this maxi totally rests above my ankles :S as for the gui-tar, I unfortunately have no rhythm (you should see me dance) jack is the talented guitar player in our house. However I did by him the banjo so I'm going to take some credit! Haha

Thanks for the love all! I must say everyones kind comments and own magnificent styling jobs have made maxis much less scary to me. Now it's just a matter of tracking down the perfect one!
